Andy’s Colouring Book Andy (1928 - 1987) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA under the parents who came from Northeastern Slovakia. His parents (Andrej Warhola and Julia Zavacky Warhola) were working class and Warhol’s father emigrated to the United States in 1014. According to a book ‘Andy Warhol 1928 -1987’ (Baal-Teshuva,1993)[1], Andy had difficulties commuting with his mother in his early years because English was not the first language for his mother Julia. In order to be closer to her son, she bought him a coloring book. She also notices her son’s artistic talent from his childhood. She encouraged young Andy to do more art activities and she gave him a chocolate as a reward for what he had done for the color book activities. I assumed that because of this childhood experience, Andy would bond with his mother who spoke little of English and further he also used her own handwriting to his own art works. Her unique handwriting can be seen in many of Warhol’s art works.
