I wanted to have a similar topic between this class (Design Research) and Health Context and Design.

Both assignments are similar. One is a proposal and the other is a protocol.

Because I wanted to have the same topic and unfold and develop ideas in different ways.

One is mainly about context, the other is mainly about methodologies.

I always have a great interest in healthcare but not until I came to have a job at the hospital.

After I graduated from school, I worked in various jobs which were mostly design related.

I established a small design boutique and worked with various types of businesses, organizations and some were very exciting and memorable. However, as I gained a wide range of professional experience, what would be the next step for me going forward? When I’ve been thinking about this question, I started working at the hospital. Working at the hospital was a turning point for me. It was like a realization of a long term wish for me. I only thought about working in the healthcare industry. At that time, I already had 10 years plus experience in the digital design and marketing industry and was able to support medical doctors.

Long introduction, I started the initial interest with diabetes, chronic health condition.

My mother has diabetes and her condition is a long term condition and I wanted to use my skills and experience to support people who have similar health challenges.

I wrote two proposals from the Health Context and Design program.

I also did research on the topic, older adult’s perspectives in research.

Low technology literacy among older adults really caught my attention because I can apply my previous skills and know-how for this.

My previous research question was

Identifying actionable barriers for older adults live independently with T2D

But now after written two proposals with feedbacks, I have a new research question to start.

How might we reduce the technology literacy gap among independently living older adults ?
